Enrollment

• Charter schools are public schools.
• Enrollment is open to any resident of the state of California.
• No person shall be subject to discrimination on the basis of ethnicity, national origin, gender, religion, or disability as set forth in Education Code Section §47605(d)(1).
• Applications are currently available in the main office or by clicking on the link above.
• School tours and information sessions are available now. Although not a requirement as part of the enrollment process, we highly recommend that prospective parents participate in one of these very informative events. To sign up for one, please CLICK HERE.

• Students residing within the boundaries of the Los Angeles Unified School District.
• Siblings of currently enrolled students. Siblings are defined as any two students who share a legal parent/guardian.
• Children of current CLIC staff and board members, as well as children of Founding Parents of CLIC (not to exceed 10% of total enrollment).
• Students who qualify for free or reduced price lunch (for more information, visit http://www.cde.ca.gov/ls/nu/rs/scales1617.asp).

Please note that if you are extended an offer for enrollment through one of the preferences above, you will need to provide supporting documentation in the enrollment packet to accept the enrollment offer. A verification of this will be done prior to finalizing your child’s enrollment. If your child was offered enrollment via a preference and CLIC deems that the child does not qualify, your child will be placed on the waiting list.

Parents who turned in enrollment forms prior to the deadline (March 1, 2017) will be notified via email or letter of the date and time of the public drawing. Each year, CLIC will conduct a lottery prior to March 31st, publicizing the date, time and location with reasonable notice of at least two weeks before the lottery date.

Lottery spaces will be pulled in order of grade level by an impartial staff member. The lottery procedure will be monitored by the Executive Director to ensure fair and accurate implementation. As names are pulled, students will be assigned a number corresponding to the number of enrollment slots. Once a grade level is drawn to capacity, applications will continue to be drawn for position on a wait list.

• CLIC admits all pupils who wish to attend (Education Code Section §47605 (d)(2)(A)), in compliance with all laws regarding minimum age for public school attendance.
• For enrollment in the 2017-18 school year, CLIC will begin to accept enrollment (lottery) forms November 10, 2016 thru March 1, 2017.
• Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten Clarification: In accordance with California Education code, a child needs to be 5 years old on or before September 1, 2017, for entry into Kindergarten in 2017-18 school year. CLIC provides Transitional Kindergarten to children turning 5 years old between September 2, 2017 and December 2, 2017 only. Transitional kindergarten is a two-year program and at CLIC it is seamlessly integrated in to our regular kindergarten classes.
• Following the open enrollment period, and after accounting for existing students who are guaranteed enrollment in the following school year, enrollment forms shall be counted to determine whether any grade level has received more enrollment forms than availability of space. If the number of students applying for enrollment exceeds CLIC’s capacity, entrance shall be determined by random public drawing (lottery) in accordance with Education Code §47605(d)(2).
• Following the lottery, families will be notified of their enrollment status (enrolled or placement on waiting list). Each student offered enrollment will receive an enrollment packet with all the forms necessary to enroll at CLIC. If a student is offered a space, that family must confirm that the student will attend the school by a Confirmation Deadline (TBD). Students who are not granted enrollment for the following year will remain on the waitlist for the duration of that school year unless otherwise requested by the parent to be taken off.
• The waiting list will include contact information of the families wanting to be considered for admission should a position open. If a position opens during the course of the year, the administrative office will contact the family on the top of the waiting list to offer their student admission to the school. Should the family decline the position, the next family on the list will be contacted until the open position is filled.
• In no circumstance will a wait list carry over to the following school year.
